Maintaining Emotional Well-Being Verdict After Verdict

Guardify was honored to host Dr. Doskey de Lobón for a second overview of the five skill domains of Components for Enhancing Clinician Experience and Reducing Trauma (CE-CERT). In this presentation, Dr. Doskey de Lobón caters her overview of CE-CERT specifically to prosecutors and their staff, teaching attendees how to manage emotional well-being verdict after verdict.

Traditional approaches to reducing secondary traumatic stress (STS) or burnout involve individuals engaging in restorative practices after work. For decades, this has been the approach – and for decades, professionals in the justice field continue to burnout or experience levels of STS that result in them leaving the field.

The Components for Enhancing Clinician Experience and Reducing Trauma (CE-CERT), developed by Dr. Brian Miller, draws from what is known about trauma impacts and treatment and posits that secondary traumatic stress is not developed in response to mere exposure to others’ trauma stories but occurs when feeling overwhelmed or helpless. Rather than waiting to recover exclusively after work, the CE-CERT model proposes micro-interventions done throughout the day.
