Meet Charlie

Charlie (Charles Barkley Fager) is the Children’s Advocacy Center of Kansas Inc’s certified therapy dog—and one of the newest, fluffiest crew members on the team. At just one year old, Charlie is already making a big impact through comfort, connection, and endless tail wags. Whether he’s greeting kids, joining community gatherings, attending events, or simply offering a calm presence, Charlie brings warmth into every space he enters. He’s a gentle reminder of the heart behind the CAC’s mission—and a steady source of joy for everyone lucky enough to meet him.

About Children’s Advocacy Center of Kansas Inc

Children’s Advocacy Center of Kansas Inc supports children and families with a coordinated, trauma-informed approach that centers safety, compassion, and healing. Through advocacy, community partnership, and child-focused services, the CAC helps ensure children are met with support and dignity throughout the process—while also strengthening awareness and connection across the communities they serve.

Training and Background

Charlie’s story began at the Golden Belt Humane Society in Great Bend, Kansas, where he was adopted at just 12 weeks old. From the very beginning, his training focused on socialization and neutrality—two essential skills for any future therapy dog who needs to stay calm, steady, and welcoming in all kinds of environments. Even as a puppy, Charlie showed resilience. After a tough battle with parvo, he bounced back with strength and determination—much like the children served by Child Advocacy Centers every day. His formal training was guided by his mom, along with support from Special K9 in Burrton, Kansas and Coach K9 in Great Bend, Kansas. From 12 weeks old through his first birthday, Charlie trained nearly every day, building the foundation for his therapy dog certification at just one year old. And even now, Charlie still loves a good training session—especially when treats are involved.

A Moment That Says It All

Charlie’s impact continues to grow, one tail wag at a time. In September 2025, Charlie made his official debut at the CAC’s Council Meeting, greeting attendees with gentle enthusiasm and quietly “listening in” as advocacy efforts were discussed. Just a couple of weeks later, he attended one of the Center’s local vendor fairs—his first public outreach event—where he happily greeted community members, soaked up attention, and represented the CAC’s mission with heart. With several more appearances scheduled before the end of the year, Charlie is quickly becoming a familiar face in the community. Whether he’s attending meetings, visiting vendor booths, or comforting kids, Charlie brings a steady sense of warmth, connection, and a reminder of why this work matters.

On His Day Off

When Charlie is off duty, he’s all about fun and friendship. His favorite things include: Hanging out with his best friend, Harvey and going on car rides.
