Meet Orion VII

Orion VII is a valued crew member at Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center, where he works alongside the Forensic Interviewer Program Supervisor to provide calm, steady emotional support to children and adolescents during forensic interviews. These interviews take place when a child has experienced abuse or witnessed a violent crime—moments that can feel overwhelming, frightening, and deeply personal. Orion’s presence helps ease anxiety and creates a sense of safety, allowing children to feel more secure as they share what happened. Quietly, consistently, and without judgment, Orion offers comfort in the moments when words are hardest to say—and that support can make all the difference.

About Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center

Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center supports children and families impacted by abuse through a trauma-informed, child-centered approach. By providing coordinated services and compassionate care, Safe Harbor helps reduce trauma, strengthen safety, and ensure children are supported throughout the investigative process.

Training and Background

Orion’s journey to becoming a facility dog began in 2020, during the first year of COVID-19. After an extensive interview and selection process, his handlers completed online coursework followed by in-person training. Orion was thoughtfully matched with Safe Harbor and officially joined the team on graduation day—ready to begin his work as a steady source of comfort for children who need it most.

A Moment That Says It All

Orion’s impact is often seen in the way he helps children feel safe enough to speak. One child arrived at the Center visibly anxious and shy. His mom mentioned that he loved dogs, so Megan introduced him to Orion. Almost immediately, the child’s entire demeanor changed—he relaxed, softened, and began to feel more at ease. When it was time for the forensic interview, he walked into the room and was able to share details about the abuse, all while looking at Orion the entire time.

In another powerful moment, Orion was requested to attend a court hearing with a Safe Harbor client. The 12-year-old girl had completed her forensic interview before Orion joined the team, so this would be their first time meeting. Yet immediately—and without hesitation—Orion focused his attention on her. He seemed to know exactly who he was there to support. Orion sat at her feet as she testified on the witness stand, giving her courage to speak in front of the man who had abused her. Because of her brave testimony, accountability was possible—and without it, the perpetrator may have gone free and potentially harmed other children in the future.

On His Day Off

When Orion is off duty, he enjoys a balance of adventure and relaxation. His favorite things include going on long walks, entertaining company at home, being the center of attention, taking naps and enjoying lazy days.
