Meet Rocket

At Kindred Kids Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) in Colorado, healing often begins with compassion, patience—and sometimes a wagging tail. Meet Rocket, the center’s devoted psychiatric service dog, whose calm presence brings comfort to children, families, and staff during some of their most challenging moments.

Rocket may be small in size, but his impact is anything but. As a psychiatric service dog trained in behavior disruption, Rocket plays a vital role in supporting emotional regulation and reducing anxiety throughout the center.

About Kindred Kids CAC

Kindred Kids CAC is committed to supporting children and families through trauma-informed care, advocacy, and coordinated services. Their multidisciplinary team works tirelessly to create a safe, welcoming environment where children feel seen, supported, and heard.

Training and Background

Rocket began his training at just 9 months old and has continued to grow into his role with dedication and heart. His advanced service dog training was donated by Advanced Service Dog, a local Colorado nonprofit—a generous partnership that made Rocket’s work at Kindred Kids CAC possible. When he’s off the clock, Rocket enjoys being a regular dog—especially playing with his three Australian Shepherd siblings, who keep him active and entertained.

Rocket assists in many meaningful ways, on particularly hard days, Rocket helps ground officers and staff, offering quiet companionship that eases stress and restores balance. Before forensic interviews, Rocket sits with children and families, helping reduce anxiety and create a sense of safety. Rocket accompanies advocates on call-outs, providing comfort when it’s needed most. Children often connect with Rocket instantly. His gentle demeanor and intuitive responses help them feel less alone—sometimes without a single word being spoken.

A Moment That Says It All

Rocket’s impact is felt far beyond the walls of the center. One of his most memorable moments happened when he visited the local library to read with children, spreading smiles and joy throughout the community. Another unforgettable moment occurred at the center itself: Rocket heard a young girl crying in the front office. Without hesitation, he ran to her side, offering gentle kisses. Her tears turned into a smile—an instant reminder of the healing power of connection.

Rocket’s presence at Kindred Kids CAC highlights the profound difference facility animals can make. They help lower anxiety, build trust, and provide emotional support in ways that words often cannot. For many children, Rocket is the first friendly face that helps them feel safe enough to begin their journey toward healing.
