Breed: Black Lab | Age: 2 Years Old
Meet Rawson
Rawson is a beloved facility dog at Project Harmony Child Advocacy Center, where he brings comfort, connection, and calm to children, families, and staff. At 2 years old, this sweet Black Lab has already become an important part of the healing environment at Project Harmony.
Rawson works alongside therapy clients three days a week, offering a steady and reassuring presence during difficult conversations. For children and families navigating trauma, having Rawson nearby can help ease anxiety, build trust, and make therapy feel safer and more approachable. Sometimes he sits quietly beside a child, and other times he brings a moment of lightness through play, connection, or a gentle nudge when it’s needed most.
During the two days he spends with the Children’s Services team, Rawson supports children who may be participating in forensic interviews or medical exams. These experiences can feel overwhelming, and Rawson helps soften those moments by offering comfort, distraction, and emotional grounding.
About Project Harmony Child Advocacy Center
Project Harmony Child Advocacy Center provides trauma-informed, child-centered services designed to support children and families through the investigative and healing process. Through coordinated care, forensic interviews, advocacy support, medical services, and mental health support, Project Harmony works to reduce trauma and help children feel safe, supported, and heard.
Training and Background
Rawson came to Project Harmony from Patriot Paws Service Dogs in Texas. He began training at just 8 weeks old and continued through 18 months, learning the skills he would need to remain calm, responsive, and comforting in emotionally challenging environments.
His training prepared him to support children, families, and staff with patience and steadiness — whether he’s sitting beside a therapy client, helping a child feel more at ease before an interview, or offering quiet comfort after a difficult day.
A Moment That Says It All
One therapy client at Project Harmony specifically requests Rawson for every appointment. That simple request says so much about the impact he has. For that child, Rawson is more than a friendly dog in the room — he is part of what makes each appointment feel safe, familiar, and manageable. His presence helps create trust and comfort in a space where healing can begin, one visit at a time.
Sometimes the most powerful support doesn’t need words. Sometimes it looks like a Black Lab sitting nearby, reminding a child that they are not alone.
On His Day Off
When Rawson is off duty, he loves to play fetch. Any kind of ball or stuffed animal will do — if he can chase it, carry it, or proudly show it off, he’s happy.
