Keeping Faith: The Potential Role of a CAC Chaplain to Address the Spiritual Needs of Maltreated Children and Advise MDTs

A significant and growing body of research indicates that most maltreated children suffer spiritual injuries, and addressing these spiritual wounds can dramatically improve the medical and mental health of abuse victims. Accordingly, several Child Advocacy Centers (CACs) have implemented chaplaincy or spiritual care programs. Recently, the U.S. Department of Justice awarded a grant to study this reform and develop resources to assist CACs in implementing these programs. This workshop details the potential value of this initiative.

Presenter

Victor Vieth serves as the Director of Zero Abuse Project’s Center for Faith and Child Protection. He has trained thousands of child-protection professionals from 50 states, 2 U.S. Territories, & 17 countries on numerous child abuse investigations, prosecutions and prevention topics, has been instrumental in implementing 22 state and international forensic interview training programs, plus dozens of undergraduate and graduate programs on child maltreatment.

Mr. Vieth earned his J. D. from Hamline University School of Law and an MA in theology from Wartburg Seminary. Mr. Vieth has published countless articles related to the investigation, prosecution and prevention of child abuse including Unto the Third Generation, a bold initiative outlining steps to eliminate child abuse in America in three generations, and On This Rock: A Call to Center the Christian Response to Child Abuse on the Life and Works of Jesus (2018).
