Beyond Avatars: Can AI Enhance Forensic Interviewing Practice and Skill Development?

This workshop introduces forensic interviewers to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence (AI) and how it may be used to support their work. Participants will receive a basic overview of AI and learn about current research on how AI is being explored in forensic interviewing, as well as how similar technologies are being used in other professional fields. The session will also address common concerns related to risk, safety, confidentiality, effectiveness, and responsible use. Throughout the workshop, presenters will demonstrate some of the tools in real time to illustrate practical applications for forensic interviewing practice.
Presenters
Crimson Barocca, LCSW-C, is the Manager of Education and Research at the Center for Hope, a consortium of comprehensive violence prevention and intervention programs that includes a Child Advocacy Center. With more than 20 years of experience in public child welfare and forensic interviewing, she oversees training, research, consultation, and expert testimony, and is the developer of the internationally recognized Forensic Interview Toolbox (FIT) model.
Ben Jackson is the CEO of Guardify, a digital evidence management platform serving Children’s Advocacy Centers, law enforcement, and multidisciplinary teams nationwide. With nearly 20 years of technology experience, including roles at LinkedIn and Flywheel, he focuses on building secure digital evidence systems and responsibly integrating AI to support child advocacy professionals.
