Utilizing Self-Review in Supervision to Develop Forensic Interviewers

Skilled and effective forensic interviewers are critical to the work of child advocacy centers. Interviewers benefit from clinical supervision practices that include reflective practices. This session presents strategies supervisors can use to engage forensic interviewers in reflective practices to increase their skills and efficacy. Increased efficacy can lead to increased engagement, role satisfaction, and retention.

Presenters

Colleen Brazil is the Vice President of Children’s Services at Project Harmony. Brazil was a forensic interviewer at Child’s Voice in Sioux Falls, SD from its inception in 1998 until August 2014 when she moved to Omaha. She has interviewed over 9,000 children regarding allegations of abuse or neglect. She has trained child protection workers, law enforcement officers and other multi-disciplinary team members on a regional and national level. She has served as an expert witness in Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota courts regarding cases of child abuse.

Amanda Kuszak is the Forensic Interview Program Manager at Project Harmony, where she has conducted over 1,400 forensic interviews. A Licensed Mental Health Practitioner and Certified Master Social Worker, she frequently testifies as an expert witness in Nebraska and Iowa courts on child abuse cases and dynamics. She has over a decade of experience in social work, including roles in advocacy, missing youth, and prevention.
